Brittany Matthews knew just how to console her fiancé, Patrick Mahomes, after his disappointing Super Bowl loss on Sunday night. The mom-to-be took to Twitter to share a sweet message about how proud she is of the star quarterback — and to remind him that he still has a lot to celebrate and look forward to.
Patrick’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, lost the big game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was a crushing defeat, with the Bucs winning by a sizable margin of 31-9. Although many sports experts believed that Patrick — despite being just three years into his professional career — could best rival quarterback Tom Brady, he ended up playing one of his worst games ever, with his team not even managing a single touchdown.
"They beat us pretty good — the worst I think I’ve been beaten in a long time," Patrick said in a post-game interview. "Credit to them. They played a heck of a game defensively and offensively to beat us."
Brady, meanwhile, took home a record seventh Super Bowl title — proving he’s still got the goods at the ripe age (at least by football standards) of 43.
Patrick’s fiancée shrugged off the loss in her emotional message on Twitter.
"Not how we wanted it to end, but 15 played his heart out, and I’m always and forever proud of him in everything he does," she wrote after the game’s conclusion. "Now let’s have a baby!"
Aww, way to focus on the positives. Brittany and Patrick are expecting their first child any time, and as she pointed out, they have even more exciting moments ahead than the Super Bowl.
Brittany also stood up for her man on Twitter during the game.
Apparently, Brittany took offense to the fact that ESPN posted a screenshot of Patrick looking stunned and dejected in the fourth quarter as the game continued to slip away.
"Cool, ESPN, love the support of a major sports platform for one of the best players in the league," she wrote, adding a series of corn emojis and "yyyyy."
She later followed up with a second tweet when the network posted yet another photo of a freaked-out-looking Patrick. "Y’all are here for this too, but he looks d–n good to me."
She also had to defend herself against a troll who implied her pregnancy was to blame for Patrick’s poor performance.
Brittany reposted a cruel tweet that read, "Mahomes got that girl pregnant, and the ancestors immediately took away his powers."
She zinged back with her own response, shutting down the hate. "Maybe you have never been pregnant… and maybe one day you will be and you will realize what a blessing it is and maybe also rethink your words, girl. It’s a shame that women can be so hateful to other women."
Brittany and Patrick’s baby will be here soon.
And Brittany seems more than ready to meet her. Last month, she showed off the adorable celestial-themed nursery she created for her daughter. A few weeks later, she shared a few shots from her gorgeous maternity shoot. Dressed in a formfitting purple dress, detailed with an oversized bow in the back, she was positively glowing. "Can’t want to be your mama little girl," she wrote.
We have to say, a new baby definitely beats a Super Bowl ring!
