Meghan McCain is a self-described “rabble rouser” who’s earned her reputation as a passionate, outspoken co-host on The View, but sometimes her comments can escalate into full-blown screaming fights, as we saw on last week’s show. In the wake of one of the more contentious episodes to air on The View this season, Meghan McCain’s mom Cindy McCain shared her thoughts on her daughter’s ion-air persona.
In an interview with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show, Cindy McCain said she supports her daughter and thinks she’s “doing a great job on the show,” HuffPost reports. “She stands up for what she believes in, and that’s all that you can ask for,” she continued. “And she’s also really smart. So I appreciate what she does. I don’t always agree with her, but I do appreciate it.”
Still, not every moment on The View has Cindy McCain beaming with pride. She admitted to Cohen that the tense moments between Meghan McCain and her co-hosts can be difficult to watch. “Yeah, from a mom ― you teach your children to be polite and be nice to other people and all that kind of stuff, and it does make me cringe a little bit,” Cindy McCain told Cohen.
She added, “But again, it’s her job and it’s what she does, and it’s Whoopi’s job to keep the peace, so I understand everything that’s going on there. But as a mom, yeah, it does bother me a little bit.”
Tensions have run high between Meghan McCain and her co-hosts this season, with last week’s episode reaching a new high as the conservative co-host lashed out at Goldberg for cutting to a commercial while she was speaking. Later in the show, Behar chastised Meghan McCain for her behavior, telling her to “have some respect.”
Meghan McCain has been a co-host on The View for four years, first joining the ABC daytime talk show in 2017. Currently, she’s the show’s most conservative cast member, often challenging her co-stars on political issues during the show’s “Hot Topics” segment.
