Arguably one of the world’s most famous supermodels of all time, Cindy Crawford was impossible to miss in the 1980s and 1990s. She was seemingly everywhere, walking runways, strutting in Pepsi commercials, and gracing countless magazine covers. Her husband Rande Gerber was also a model in his own right (though not nearly as famous) before he transitioned into the hospitality business.
Beauty seems to be woven into the couple’s DNA, as their two children are both drop-dead gorgeous. There’s Kaia Gerber, their daughter, and Presley Gerber, their son. And Presley, with his strong jaw and chiseled body, has indeed grown up to be gorgeous.
His dad is his best friend
Presley and Kaia were both raised in Malibu, the playground of the Hollywood elite. And according to George Clooney, a personal friend of the Gerber family, that can have an impact on some Hollywood children.
He told the New York Times, "Those kids have every reason in the world to be screwed up." But clearly, they’re not, and he attributes that to good parenting. He continued, "They’re beautiful kids and they were born into fame and wealth. But Cindy and Rande were very aware of raising kids in Malibu, and how that can go horribly wrong. So they’ve been really hands-on parents."
That’s likely why Gerber remains close to his dad to this day. Of his father, Gerber told the New York Times, "He’s a perfectionist and an all-around happy guy. He’s like my best friend."
He didn’t understand fame as a kid
As can be expected, growing up with Cindy Crawford as your mother puts you squarely in the public eye. But as a kid, Gerber didn’t fully comprehend what that meant. He told Vogue, "I didn’t realize that my mom was a famous model until I was about 10 years old, even though I did visit her on set sometimes."
So even when photographers would ambush them, he didn’t really understand why, despite his parents’ attempts to explain it. He continued, "Sometimes when I was little, paparazzi would jump out at us and take pictures of her and our family. My parents tried to explain that it was because of my mom’s job and that she was famous, but I didn’t really understand what fame was until I was older."
Gerber is only getting more famous by the day, so he certainly must understand it now.
Cindy Crawford is just "mom" to him
It’s hard to picture Cindy Crawford as anything other than a super glamorous, world famous model.
But no matter how many commercials she did, or how many runways she walked, as a kid Gerber didn’t notice anything different or special about his mother. He told Vogue, "She seemed like all the other moms to me — taking me to school and reading me bedtime stories." That sounds almost shockingly typical.
Gerber’s perception of his mother hasn’t changed as an adult, either. In an interview with Extra, he spoke about how he doesn’t see her as an icon. "I don’t really think I’ve still realized that," he said. "She’s still my mom."
He digs motorcycles
Gerber has an affinity for motorcycles, as is evident by various posts on his Instagram page. He also confirmed that he has one of his own in a Periscope video that he filmed with his then-girlfriend, Lily Moulton.
It’s not shocking, given that his father is also a motorcycle rider. In 2016, Rande hit the road with friend George Clooney for an impressive, five day, 2,500 mile trip, according to a post he made on Instagram. Maybe it’s in Gerber’s DNA too, as his mother rode around on one while she was pregnant with him, according to People magazine.
Yes, his tattoo is real
You might not catch it on the runway, but Gerber sports a tattoo on his left forearm. It says, "be grateful" in stylized, bold black letters. And it’s not fake. When a viewer asked Gerber during a Periscope video whether it was real, he confirmed, "Yeah, it’s real, she’s real," referring to his tattoo. Moulton followed up with, "His tattoo is real. Show it. That is a real one."
When another viewer asked again, he answered, "Yeah, yeah it’s real. It’s legit." So there’s no questioning its authenticity.
He likes his trademark mole
One of the things that Crawford is most famous for, other than her insanely good looks, is her trademark mole. It set her apart from other models back in the 1980s and 1990s.
Gerber inherited that trademark mole, though he too wasn’t sure about it at first. Crawford told the Los Angeles Times, "My daughter, Kaia, didn’t get the mole but my son, Presley, did and he wanted to get it removed. I took him to a doctor who said exactly what my mom said to me: ‘You’ll have a scar.’ But it was good because he made the decision himself not to have it removed."
Gerber confirmed his affinity for his trademark mole in a Periscope video he shot with Moulton. When a viewer asked if he liked it, he and Moulton responded with an enthusiastic "Yes!" in unison.
Classic rock is his jam
Gerber may be young, but he prefers music that’s much older than he is: classic rock. In an interview with W magazine, he said, "I kinda only listen to classic rock, so like Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, all from that time." In the same interview, his sister mentioned that she’s, "not allowed to have the aux in his car," as she listens to more contemporary music. So he’s a bit of a purist.
Gerber has also posted on Instagram about his musical interests. He captioned a photo of Guns N’ Roses, "Only reason I came to Coachella!" He also posted a photo from a Rolling Stones concert, and an homage to Prince when the singer passed away.
He and his sister are tight
Gerber is fairly new to the modeling world, so in the beginning, his sister helped him out — happily. In an interview with PeopleStyle, she said, "I love it because I just see him doing so well. He doesn’t really know much about the industry, so I get to teach him."
Not only are the siblings tight in the spotlight, but they’re also close at home. Kaia told Elle that she likes to steal his clothes. "Presley has really good sweatshirts. Not like Yeezy sweatshirts or anything, but they’re just really good and worn in," she said. "And since he’s bigger than me, they’re really oversized, which I love with skinny jeans."
This can end up in some hijinks. Kaia continued, "He’ll say, ‘Kaia, have you seen my stuff?’ And I’m like, ‘Nope, guess you just left it somewhere.’ Then I’ll literally be wearing it the next day, and I’m really bad at covering for myself. I’ll be like, ‘What are you talking about? This is mine!’ And then I can’t stop laughing."
For a while, Gerber even maintained an Instagram account where he posted pictures that he took of his sister, but it hasn’t been updated in a long time.
He does his thing on the catwalk
Gerber has been making quite the splash in the fashion world as a model. He made his runway debut in June 2016, and quickly landed several high-profile gigs after that. Since then, he’s been working steadily.
But Gerber didn’t always have modeling aspirations. He told W magazine, "I never even thought about it for a second, and I never really liked being in front of a camera." However, he warmed up to modeling quickly. He continued, "But then I did it and the first few times it was like, eh, it’s alright. Then I started traveling and coming to New York a lot, and I love it here, and then I got to go to Milan, so I’m starting to like it a lot more."
Now he’s doing some very big name shows, and really enjoying himself. He told Vogue, "Going to Milan by myself to open the Dolce Gabbana show was definitely the biggest thing I have done so far. I was a bit nervous, but also had a great time."
He and his sister are also featured in 2018 ads for the iconic designer, Calvin Klein.
He was in a Super Bowl commercial
Gerber is turning heads not just on the catwalk, but also on television. In early 2018, he and his mother were featured in a Pepsi commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. He told People magazine, "I am really excited to be in [Pepsi’s] commercial with my mom, especially since her commercial from back in the day is so iconic. I feel like now I get to hop in there with her, which is really cool."
Gerber enjoyed not just the shoot, but also the commute. He continued, "We literally drove from our house to work together, then drove home together. But we’re a really tight family, so it was just like going to work with one of your friends. It was so fun, and easy."
Crawford also enjoyed the experience, but was careful to give her son room to work. She told CBS News, "Just as a mother, we drove to work together that day and we shared the same trailer. And when he was doing his thing, I was just a proud mom watching from the sidelines, trying not to annoy him."
Notably, this wasn’t Gerber’s first Pepsi advertisement. You can catch a cameo of him as a little kid in one of Crawford’s original Pepsi commercials.
He was arrested for DUI
Unfortunately for Gerber, he found himself in hot water toward the end of 2018. That’s when he was taken into custody by police for driving under the influence, according to TMZ. Gerber was pulled over in his Tesla by law enforcement at approximately 4 a.m. for speeding, and was reported to be smelling strongly of alcohol. Additionally, he was given a field sobriety test, which he was unable to pass, so they arrested him. He was then booked and released without bail.
If convicted of the charges, Gerber will have his driver’s license suspended for a minimum of one year. Gerber’s lawyer, Scott Spindel, told TMZ that Gerber has never been arrested and has no criminal record. "Presley Gerber takes this very seriously and is taking the necessary steps to address the allegations," he added. Hopefully this is the first and last time the model will be in trouble with the law!
