During the summer months, when I’m planning lunches for my boys, I try to make things they love to eat, but also meals they can get into the kitchen and help make as well. Both of them have been cooking with me since they were basically babies in their bassinets, but this past school year the teenager took a cooking class and learned even more. Like how to master skillet omelets—something I still can’t do!
Simple lunches they can help me prepare, and then enjoy every single bite of, are a fun way we get some extra quality time during the summer break. This summer, Garlic Bread Pizzas have become a new favorite and it’s easy to understand why!
These hands-friendly, budget-friendly pizzas are great for the littles to help with. You can even make it a “bar” style meal and let them build their own individual pizza. Perfect for when their friends come for a sleepover or pool party too! Using Texas toast style garlic bread gives you a ready made crust waiting for all your favorite toppings.
What Is Texas Toast?
The Texas toast style garlic bread can easily be found in the frozen food section. It usually comes with eight slices in the box, and can be plain or topped with cheese. Texas style toast is sliced bread that is thicker than typical sandwich bread, usually by double. I use it both for garlic bread and French toast since the extra thickness can withstand toppings, spreads or liquid.
Ingredients Needed to Make Garlic Bread Pizzas
Easy pizzas made from garlic bread is a great recipe to whip up last minute since I almost always have the ingredients on hand:
- frozen Texas toast garlic bread

- shredded Parmesan cheese
- sliced pepperoni
- sliced black olives
- Italian seasoning
How To Make Garlic Bread Pizzas
Gather your favorite pizza toppings and a box of garlic bread, preheat the oven and let’s get baking!
The temperature in the recipe and the one on your box might differ. I find the higher temp works better. You will bake the garlic bread for a few minutes before adding the toppings to avoid soggy “crust”!
After baking between 5-10 minutes more, your mini pizzas will be browned and delicious. Serve them with some extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping.
I love these for a simple summer lunch, but they would make a terrific game day snack too. My kids even suggested I make a double batch and add a tossed salad on the side for a easy supper on a busy weeknight, so that will be happening soon!
Best Tips For Cooking Garlic Bread Pizzas:
- You want to use the plain garlic bread slices, and not the ones topped with cheese. Adding the cheese yourself gets a better melt factor and lets the toppings “stick” better.
- A small teaspoon is perfect for spread the sauce evenly on each slice.
- Feel free to add any toppings you love, but make sure any veggies are chopped small and dried completely so they don’t add moisture to your pizzas.
- Set various toppings out and let everyone build their own pizza for a fun interactive pizza night.
- The mini pepperonis or pre-cooked sausage crumbles would work well too.
