Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer may be back in development — an analysis of Update 1.3’s executable revealed some interesting behind-the-scenes changes coming to CD Projekt Red’s games PC and consoles.
We all know that Cyberpunk 2077 has had a troubled, messy launch, but CD Projekt Red seems firm in its commitment to make things right and eventually deliver the vision it promised to fans. Now, a new video from Tyler McVicker breaks down some of the things he’s learned about the Cyberpunk 2077 1.3 update. Among the many new tidbits he’s discovered is what appears to be evidence that CDPR has begun work on a multiplayer experience anew.
The Evidence for Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer in Update 1.3
Tyler McVicker says that he’s seen and heard some interesting information about Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer — he explains that the modding community has made some interesting discoveries about Patch 1.3.
"1.3 broke all the mods. Everything. It broke everything," Tyler McVicker said in his video. "It signifies that, on the engine level, everything has changed. I’ve talked with a few people that are deep into the modding scene and they have told me that fundamental building blocks of what creates the Red Engine Version 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 have been rebuilt — almost from scratch."
A team of modders recently tried to fix many of the game’s problems and their efforts may soon be entirely redundant based on CDPR’s latest work. Adding to this is CDPR’s repeated commitment to actually fix the game. If what the modders have said is accurate, this is an important first step to actually turning things around in the end.
Modding aside, a bit of datamining has discovered some interesting tidbits of code that contain pretty explicit references to multiplayer. Through the use of a hex editor, dataminers were able to discover new game directories behind the scenes.
These new references within the Cyberpunk 2077 code refer to items such as "MultiplayerScanDirectory" and "MultiplayerGymsDirectory." The most interesting bit is where these items are stored in the file tree: folders referring to "multi" and "test." Put those two items together and it makes the case that Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer is being tested.

According to McVicker, these items are for "game states," an internal flag that makes massive changes to the world on the same scale as an expansion pack. Speaking of expansion packs, this same analysis also revealed two major expansion packs (listed as ep1 and ep2) and "a couple dozen free pieces of DLC" — some of which were revealed via a separate datamining effort last month.
All of this info makes the case that CD Projekt Red has done some serious work under the hood as part of the process of bringing the game to a better place, though you should keep in mind that datamined information is no guarantee of a release until a feature is officially announced.
