The fragility and destructive nature of Charles and Diana’s relationship has been well-recorded at this point, but the shocking new revelation indicates that 31-year-old Charles had no feelings for 20-year-old Diana even on the eve of their marriage.
The claim comes as part of a new ITV documentary, The Diana Interview: Revenge of a Princess, which deals with the fallout of Diana’s infamous 1995 Panorama interview in which she said “there were three of us in this marriage”, referring to Charles’ lover-now-wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.
In an interview, astrologer Penny Thornton said, “One of the most shocking things that Diana told me was that the night before the wedding Charles told her that he didn’t love her.
“I think Charles didn’t want to go into the wedding on a false premise. He wanted to square it with her and it was devastating for Diana.”
She went on, “She didn’t want to go through with the wedding at that point, she thought about not attending the wedding.”
At the center of the documentary is a shocking allegation that Martin Bashir, who interviewed Diana for the BBC’s Panorama, showed the princess’s brother Charles Spencer doctored bank statements implying that the head of his security was receiving payments for information about Diana.
In this way, the earl says, his trust was won and the interview with Diana was secured—an interview that would ultimately change the face of the monarchy forever.
Lord Spencer has demanded an investigation into Martin Bashir’s actions, to be conducted independently of the BBC.
