The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an American-period comedy created by Amy Sherman-Palladino. Rachel Brosnahan plays the show’s lead character Miriam Maisel, who discovers that she has a hidden talent for comedy beneath her housewife veneer. The show has aired for three seasons, with the fourth expected in 2022.

Season 3 Background

During the course of season three, financial problems were at the heart of the show. Miriam’s parents Abe (Tony Shalhoub) and Rose (Marin Hinkle), were in huge bother. The former lost his job as a professor, while the latter was in a weak position, feeling inadequate compared to her siblings.

In order to deal with their monetary issues, Rose approached her wealthy oil-magnate family to request an increase in her trust fund. But after falling out with them, she renounced her rights to that trust, leaving them with no option but to leave.

With nowhere else to go, the pair moved in with their former in-laws (Joel’s parents), Moishe (Kevin Pollak), and Shirley (Caroline Aaron), who they cannot stand.

Much in the same way, we find that Miriam is in similar, troubled waters. Her manager, Susie (Alex Borstein), has inextricably gambled her earnings on sports betting while at the same time relinquishing her responsibilities by asking Miriam’s ex-husband Joel (Michael Zegen) to manage her affairs.

In a desperate act to recover Miriam’s funds, Susie commits fraud by burning down her deceased mother’s house to claim the insurance. Miriam is unaware of this. Naturally, those actions will come back to haunt her.

Miriam’s plan to buy back her apartment and house her parents has gone down the drain. She had initially agreed with Moishe to use her Shy Baldwin tour earnings as collateral for the apartment which he owns.

And yet, Miriam continues to live a lavish lifestyle. Her insistence on sending her son Ethan (Matteo Pascale ) to a private school in the midst of financial uncertainty is at the core of Miriam’s character: her inability to see her stubbornness.

Her love life has also suffered. Her engagement with Benjamin (Zachary Levi ) is over, while a one-night stand with Joel leads them to get re-married, only to divorce again. Any attempts of Miriam getting with her comedic friend Lenny (Luke Kirby ) look to be over.

Her life is being tested to the limit as the season ends with her being kicked off Shy Baldwin’s (Leroy McClain) tour. After Miriam’s jokes about Shy threaten to reveal Shy’s sexuality (Gay), his manager Reggie (Sterling K. Brown ), fires her.

That is where we find ourselves as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 approaches.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 Potential Plot

Miriam will have to find a new way of making a name for herself. After being kicked off Shy Baldwin’s tour, she will have to find a new niche and perhaps return to her prior comedic jokes at her family’s expense that had initially gained her traction.

And yet, will Shy Baldwin do all he can in his power to protect his sexuality even at the cost of destroying Miriam’s career? As her finances are in the red, Miriam and Susie are bound to have a full-on confrontation.

Miriam is unaware of her gambling addiction which has now threatened to destroy her whole livelihood. Moreover, Miriam’s relationship with her mother is going to be tested.

Not only is Rose no longer entitled to her trust fund, her daughter’s failure to make a name for herself is not going to help mend things. How will Rose react to Miriam’s loss of earnings, especially when she is in the same boat and looking for help?

At the same time, Miriam’s love life will be explored. Her attraction to Lenny has not gone away, but matters have been complicated by the reported return of Benjamin. Has Miriam gotten over him, or will Benjamin’s return rekindle her previous attraction?

Finally, Abe will be on a mission to rebuild his career. As the sole breadwinner and no longer having access to Rose’s trust fund, how will he be able to reinvent himself?
