The View has seen quite a few shake-ups in the last few months! We’ve lost controversial co-host Meghan McCain, been introduced to a revolving door of new co-hosts, and celebrated the show’s silver anniversary. And on today’s episode of The View, moderator Whoopi Goldberg was not in her usual moderator position. In her place, we found two new folks: substitute co-host Ana Navarro and retired co-host Star Jones. What’s the deal? Fans want to know: is Whoopi Goldberg leaving The View?
Today’s episode included an epic roast of The View‘s creator, Barbara Walters, from OG co-host Jones herself. The two have a long-running feud thanks to the way Jones was forced to part ways with the show. When Joy Behar, subbing in for Goldberg as moderator today, asked Jones about her time with the view, the former talking head reported that it was “fabulous” — for the most part. “Nine years were fabulous,” Jones said, adding that “one was eh…” in reference to her final year.
Is the same dilemma about to happen with Goldberg, too? Here’s what we know about Whoopi Goldberg leaving The View:
Is Whoopi Goldberg leaving The View?
Nope. Goldberg wasn’t absent from today’s episode — Behar serves as the moderator on Fridays of The View, with Ana Navarro as guest co-host. She’ll be back next Monday, Sept. 12, for more episodes of the ABC talk show. Whoopi will also be out on some Thursdays, so if you don’t see her on the panel two days next week, don’t panic.
Why did Star Jones co-host The View today? Is Star Jones the replacement host for Meghan McCain?
Sorry for all fans of Aunty Star: that we know of, today was Jones only day of co-hosting. That’s because she was visiting for Flashback Friday, a new segment implemented to both fill McCain’s slot and celebrate 25 seasons of The View.
McCain’s spot will also be filled by conservative figureheads like Condoleezza Rice and Eboni K. Williams over the next few weeks. This week, Mia Love was The View‘s first guest co-host filling McCain’s spot.
Why did Star Jones leave The View? When was Star Jones on The View?
Jones was one of the OG co-hosts of The View, debuting on the panel in 1997 and continuing until 2006.
There was quite a bit drama surrounding Jones’ exit as co-host when it all went down. After her contract on the ABC show ended, Jones gave an exclusive interview to People magazine explaining that she had been let go: “What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the 10th season… I feel like I was fired.” She didn’t appear on The View again until the mid-2010s.
Who is the next guest co-host of The View?
Conservative journalist Mary Katharine Ham is set to take the panel. She’ll be the guest co-host for Monday and Tuesday’s (Sept. 13 and 14) episodes, followed by another mystery Flashback Friday guest on the Sept. 17 episode.
The View airs weekdays on ABC at 11/10c.
