Crafting Legendaries in Shadowlands can be an expensive process, and not just because you’re spending gold at the Auction House to buy the proper item. Running around trying to get enough Soul Ash and Soul Cinders to get a Legendary all the way up to Rank 6 can take a lot of effort, since you can only get Soul Cinders on your first Torghast clear and you only get 20% of the amount of Soul Ash you got on your first clear on subsequent clears.
Now I’m going to drink this comically large glass of water and open the patch notes for patch 9.1.5:
- Repeatedly completing Wings now awards the full amount of Soul Ash (up from 20% after the first clear).
- Repeatedly completing Wings now awards the full amount of Soul Cinders (up from none after the first clear).
- Significantly increased the amount of Soul Cinders awarded from Layers 8 – 12, Maw Assaults, Tormentors of Torghast, and Command Table missions.
Just that change to Soul Cinders alone is huge, as it will mean that you go from being limited to just one Torghast clear and a weekly maximum of around 560 Soul Cinders — 360 for the two wings you could clear, plus around 100 for the Maw Assaults, and the rest from Command Table and Tormentors of Torghast.
Now, however, with the amount of Soul Cinders being buffed — although we still don’t know by how much yet — and both Soul Ash and Soul Cinders rewarding the full amount on subsequent clears of a Torghast wing, you could much more easily clear all of Torghast available repeatedly and farm up more than twice as much in Soul Ash and Soul Cinders. This could make getting a whole new Legendary from Rank 1 to Rank 6 significantly easier.
I’m glad I didn’t get water all over my monitor just now, that would have been embarrassing.
While this won’t make the Rank 5 and Rank 6 Base Items any easier to obtain — those are likely still very pricey on the AH, and as far as I’m aware still requires a Vestige of Origins and 40 Korthite Crystals to make that, but still, speeding up the process by letting you get way more Soul Ash per week is a nice change.
