Casting is heating up on Warner Bros’ Wonka starring Timothée Chalamet.
According to Variety, BAFTA winner Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Academy Award winner Olivia Colman (The Crown), and Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) are the latest to join the cast of Warner Bros’ Wonka.
The forthcoming feature film is set to explore the origin story of the titular candy man, picking up with Willy Wonka long before he opens his doors to the fantastical confectionary workshop we’re introduced to in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The Warner Bros. film has already found its titular star in Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet. The Call Me By Your Name vet is the latest actor to pick up the mantle. Previous actors who’ve portrayed the famed chocolatier include Johnny Depp (who starred in Tim Burton’s 2005 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel), and Gene Wilder, who starred in the 1971 musical adaptation.
Other previously announced cast members include Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien. Natasha Rothwell. Rakhee Thakrar, and Ellie White.
Behind the camera, the origin story movie is being directed by Paddington vet Paul King, and features a script King co-wrote with Simon Farnaby.
