WHAT IS SINGLE ALL THE WAY?
Starring Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) as Peter, a single gay man going home for the Holidays. In an all too familiar tune, has a mother who wants nothing more than for her son to be happy in a loving relationship. Desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his single status, Peter convinces his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to pretend to be his boyfriend. However, his mother doesn’t fall for that and has other plans. She sets Peter up on a blind date with her super hot cycling instructor, James (Luke Macfarlane). And all the fun, hilarious, Holiday Rom-Com antics ensue.
I love Holiday Rom-Coms from Hallmark to Cinematic Releases like The Holiday, and I especially enjoy that streaming services are finally joining in on the fun. What makes a great Holiday Rom-Com (besides the script) is the cast, and Single All The Way has some of the best!
Playing Peter’s family members we have a dynamic trio of comedic Goddesses from Jennifer Robertson (Schitt’s Creek) as his sister, Kathy Najimy (Hocus Pocus) as Peter’s mother, and as the crazy Aunt Sandy, the one and only Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde). The family dynamic is what absolutely makes this film. From the mother to the meddling siblings and nieces, Single All The Way gives you everything you want from a fun Holiday Rom-Com.
While the story isn’t original, the boy meets a hot guy but is secretly in love with his bestie. However, he doesn’t want to say anything because he’s scared. I don’t care. One of my favorite things about a Holiday Rom-Com is its predictability. However, what makes this film a success is that even though I know exactly what’s going to happen I love all the characters, am rooting for them the entire way, and love the journey.
