Gather the ingredients to make miso salmon
Now that you know you’d like to make this yummy miso salmon, you will need to head to the grocery store and get the ingredients. We always like to remind readers to check your cupboard and fridge for items you may already have so you don’t double up. First, you will need a few salmon fillets. Next, grab some brown miso paste. In addition, you will need a little white rice vinegar. Of course, you will also need some soy sauce.
Then, head to the baking aisle and pick up brown sugar. To add a little kick of spice, be sure to get some chili flakes or red pepper flakes. Last but not least, you will need some sesame seeds to sprinkle on top.
Mix the sauce
Now that you have finished your grocery shopping, it’s time to get down to business. Grab a small bowl and begin mixing the ingredients to make the sauce. First, toss in the miso paste, followed by the vinegar. Then, you can add soy sauce and brown sugar. The last thing you need to add to the mix is the chili flakes. Stir everything with a spoon to combine.
This sauce brings a wonderful flavor to the salmon. "The sauce is a balance of sweet, sour and salty flavours with a hint of heat from the chilli flakes," Brookes shares. How good does that sound?
Marinate the salmon
Since this recipe makes four salmon fillets, divide the sauce into four parts. Then, spoon the mixture over the salmon fillets to coat them generously. The more sauce, the better! Once you finish adding the sauce, you can place the salmon in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to let them marinate. "Leaving the salmon to marinate allows the flavours to develop and soak into the salmon," Brookes explains.
Preheat the oven and bake salmon
Once it’s almost time to take the salmon out of the fridge, go ahead and preheat the oven to 375 F. This way, it has time to get nice and hot while the salmon finishes marinating. When your timer goes off, take the salmon out of the fridge and place it onto a baking sheet lined with foil. Be sure the oven has finished preheating and then pop the salmon in for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you’d prefer, you could also grill or pan fry it. Different strokes for different folks!
Serve and enjoy
Remove the salmon from the oven and add sesame seeds if you wish. You can always skip this part if you don’t like sesame seeds but we think that it adds a great little addition to the fish. There are plenty of sides that go well with this fish. "[Serve the salmon] with broccoli, peas, green beans, rice, quinoa, with stir fried veg or noodles," Brookes suggests.
If you have some left, don’t toss it out. "They will keep up to a day in the fridge. Just reheat wrapped in foil in the oven or eat cold," Brookes shares. We hope you love this tasty salmon as much as we do!
