The current House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy, was overheard ranting and cursing at caucus members in a closed-door meeting before they were due to go to the floor to vote on a new speaker, according to a report from CNN’s Manu Raju.

According to CNN’s Raju, the California Republican reiterated to his colleagues, “I’ve earned this job,” as concerns about the besieged Republican leader’s ability to secure the gavel on the first election grew.

“We’re hearing things are getting very heated behind closed doors. Kevin McCarthy is essentially done with negotiating with this block of conservatives who are seeking a number of concessions to weaken the speakership, to empower them, and he said he’s gone so far and they have refused to get to yes and he’s raising his voice and detailing everything that he’s done and said, quote, ‘I’ve earned this job,” Raju stated while speaking with hosts Jim Sciutto and Erica Hill.

“Now he is also getting some pushback in the room” Raju continued. “Our sources are telling our Capitol Hill team that [Rep.] Lauren Boebert said ‘bullshit’ in response to what Kevin McCarthy said.”

Boebert recently made headlines when a letter published in the December 25 edition of the Durango Herald rubs salt into the fresh wounds, lambasting Boebert’s behavior in regard to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States.

According to multiple reports, Boebert and fellow Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz (Florida) refused to applaud or stand during Zelensky’s time addressing members of Congress —behavior that could easily be labeled disrespectful or inappropriate given the circumstances.

In the letter, Boebert’s constituent is clear on their opinion of her, writing that her behavior has “once again embarrassed her 3rd Congressional District constituents and the entire country.”

The author of the letter identified only as ‘Carol,’ went on to further criticize Boebert for “not understanding” the true implications of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the extent to which it is a dire threat to democracy around the globe.

“They are among a small group of far-right House members opposed to any future aid to Ukraine and are demanding a ‘full investigation’ into the aid already sent to help the war-torn country survive.”

The letter continued: “It’s clear that Boebert does not understand the importance of defending democracy in our world and does not care about the wishes of her constituents.”

This is far from the first time Boebert has been criticized for behaviors deemed unprofessional given her status. As one of the most controversial Republican Representatives of the year, her name has been plastered across headlines time and time again, often calling out disrespectful quips posted to her Twitter. However, she has also been widely criticized for offline behaviors such as heckling U.S. President Joe Biden during his State of the Union Address.

“She is clearly on the wrong side of history,” the letter reads. “Will she ever learn?’
